When Leadership Finds You: Stepping Up Before You Feel Ready
Some people chase leadership. Others have it quietly placed in their lap.
I was the second kind.
I didn’t ask to lead—I simply kept showing up, doing the work, and trying to do my best. Then one day, people started looking to me for answers, guidance, and direction. At first, I thought, Why me? I wasn’t the loudest in the room, and I didn’t have all the answers. But what I did have was heart, consistency, and a deep desire to help others succeed.
Leadership often shows up not as a title, but as a moment—a moment when you realize people are watching how you handle pressure, how you treat others, and how you carry yourself when no one’s clapping. It’s in those moments that leadership finds you, ready or not.
I learned that leadership isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being present. It’s about listening, lifting others up, and setting the tone even when you’re still figuring it out yourself. The best leaders don’t have all the answers—they ask the right questions, stay teachable, and lead with integrity.
If leadership has found you, even in small ways—embrace it. You don’t need to have it all together. You just need to care enough to grow into the role, one step at a time.
